Hi EVeryone!

The following should be of interest to local anti-war groups - Electric
Vehicles - No Gas - or War - Required!

If we want peace in 2008 we need to do more than simply protest the war!

There will be a rally in Sacramento this Wednesday to insist that the
California Air Resources Board (CARB) does not cave to oil / auto
industry pressures to further weaken the Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate
(ZEV).

More info from the Alternative Transportation Club and Electric Auto
Association of Northern Nevada follows . . .

There will be no newsletter or meeting this month. The next meeting is
Thursday, April 18, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at the Northwest Reno Library (see
website <http://www.electricnevada.org/> for details). Also, on Sunday,
April 20, 2008 we will have a booth at the annual Earth Day celebration
in Reno (details at the website <http://www.electricnevada.org/> as
well). If you have an EV you wish to display at Earth Day please reply
to this message or call me at 775 826-4514.

*ATTACHED BELOW IS AN URGENT ACTION ALERT from Plug-in America
<http://www.pluginamerica.com/>.*

*Regardless of where you live, it is critical that you contact
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the California Air
Resources Board (CARB).* The State of California ranks consistently
among the ten largest economies in the world. With that kind of
purchasing power they can - and do - dictate to manufacturers what they
can and cannot sell in the state.

In short, California can tell the manufacturers to build electric
vehicles, as they did in 1990. The Zero Emissions Mandate (ZEV) resulted
in the development and marketing of the General Motors EV-1, Toyota Rav4
EV, Ford Ranger EV, and others as well as the deployment of NiMH
batteries into transportation applications. Later, however, under
pressure from oil companies, vehicle manufacturers, and others, ZEV was
greatly diluted and became more of an option or guideline to the
manufacturers than a mandate.

*There is a real possibility that the ZEV program will be amended and
dramatically strengthened by CARB on Thursday, March 27, 2008 -- /BUT
THAT WILL BE UP TO YOU!/*/
/
Governor Schwarzenegger and CARB must /HEAR FROM YOU! /The only response
to rich industry groups is an informed and activist public! Don't let
the oil companies and auto manufactures tell you what to buy. /IT'S UP
TO YOU TO TELL THEM/ what you will purchase! /NO PLUG, NO DEAL!/

/*Please act now, it only takes a minute or two to follow the links
below and have your voice heard: If you don't act, who will? */

Thanks!

Be well,
Bob Tregilus

*Dear Bob,*

We want zero emission electric cars on the road, and we want them NOW!
Help PIA inspire Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and CARB Chair Mary
Nichols to do the right thing by clicking here
<http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/2711/t/4015/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=23561>.

And get ready for a rousing Rally and Press Conference near the
California Air Resources Board (CARB) Headquarters at the corner of I
and 10th Streets in Sacramento
<http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=I+St+%26+10th+St,+Sacramento,+Sacramento,+California+95814,+United+States&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=50.51141,82.265625&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=0,38.581400,-121.492980&ll=38.581398,-121.49298&spn=0.00307,0.005021&t=h&z=18&iwloc=addr&output=html>
on March 26th.

Now is your chance to join the action before CARB votes on a proposal
that could keep zero emission electric cars out of consumers' hands for
decades. Raise your voice at the March 26 rally alongside Plug in
America, Tesla Motors, former CIA Director James Woolsey, Rainforest
Action Network and others. Please join us at 10:30 a.m. and bring your
friends. No RSVP required.

Tell both the Governor and Chair Nichols to support production of
electric vehicles - the automotive technology that could work NOW to
help clean our air and cut CO2 emissions. Click here
<http://www.pluginamerica.org/action.shtm> and don't forget to forward
this message far and wide to family, friends, interest groups and social
networks like MySpace. If you can think of a way to spread the word, do it!

As gasoline prices lurch toward the $4.00 per gallon mark, let's all
work together to hasten the day when we can dump the pump and start
driving clean, efficient electric cars.

Hope to see you in Sacramento on the 26th!
