The following should be of interest to local anti-war groups - Electric Vehicles - No Gas - or War - Required!

There will be a rally in Sacramento this Wednesday to insist that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) does not cave to oil / auto industry pressures by further weaken the Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate (ZEV).

 There will be no newsletter or meeting this month. The next meeting is Thursday, April 18, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at the Northwest Reno Library (see website for details). Also, on Sunday, April 20, 2008 we will have a booth at the annual Earth Day celebration in Reno (details at the website as well).  ATTACHED BELOW IS AN URGENT ACTION ALERT from Plug-in America. 
 
 Regardless of where you live, it is critical that you contact California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The State of California ranks consistently among the ten largest economies in the world. With that kind of purchasing power they can - and do - dictate to manufacturers what they can and cannot sell in the state.
 
 In short, California can tell the manufacturers to build electric vehicles, as they did in 1990. The Zero Emissions Mandate (ZEV) resulted in the development and marketing of the General Motors EV-1, Toyota Rav4 EV, Ford Ranger EV, and others as well as the deployment of NiMH batteries into transportation applications. Later, however, under pressure from oil companies, vehicle manufacturers, and others, ZEV was greatly diluted and became more of an option or guideline to the manufacturers than a mandate.
 
 There is a real possibility that the ZEV program will be amended and dramatically strengthened by CARB on Thursday, March 27, 2008 -- BUT THAT WILL BE UP TO YOU!
 
 Governor Schwarzenegger and CARB must HEAR FROM YOU! The only response to rich industry groups is an informed and activist public! Don't let the oil companies and auto manufactures tell you what to buy. IT'S UP TO YOU TO TELL THEM what you will purchase! NO PLUG, NO DEAL!
