[Peace-presence] Volunteers needed to Distribute Opt-Out forms at High Schools

Dear peace community member,

Can you commit an hour in the next couple of weeks to
save some lives? 

The Youth Military Awareness Project (YMAP) is
beginning the Opt Out season to distribute Opt Out
forms by Oct 1st to students who are largely unaware
that they have the right to "Opt Out" from allowing
their high school to give their contact information to
 military recruiters. It has made a difference in 2005
and 2006 to stand on the sidewalk right off the campus
and handout forms to students on the way to lunch.
Last year at three high schools Wooster, Hug and
Sparks, we increased the number of students who opted
out last year by approximately 1200 students.

With a protracted war in Iraq and now the prospect of
going to war in Iran, informing our youth of their
rights is imperative!  Please sign up today. With this
schedule, I can assist you to pair you up with another
person. It's easiest with two people because the
students walk by pretty fast on their way to lunch.
Here's a list of high schools to write your name and a
sample script. It's easy, something like . . .

"Did you know the military gets your contact
information from your high school unless you turn in
this form to your high school office? Do it now, if
your plan to Opt Out. Deadline is October 1st." Hand
them a form.
