RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Dozens of protesters rallied Saturday outside the federal building in Reno to demand an end to the Iraq war and the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
At one point during the peaceful 4-hour protest, demonstrators laid down on the lawn to spell out the word "impeach" while chanting "Impeach Bush, Impeach Cheney."
They also used chalk to write slogans on the sidewalk such as "How Many Deaths Will It Take?" and "Up to 600,000 Refugees."
Wendy Boge said she attended her first peace rally ever because of opposition to Bush's Iraq policy.
"Bush has totally destabilized the Middle East, and we are going to be paying for it for a long time," she said.
Mark Pritchard was among those who took advantage of an open microphone during the protest.
"I'm here today in support of my son-in-law, who is on a support ship off the coast of Iran waiting for a wrong move from Iran," he told the crowd.
Organizers said about 60 to 70 people participated in the event, which was sponosored by World Can't Wait and other community peace groups.
Protesters also waved placards at passing motorists, including one reading "Support Our Troops - Impeach Our President."
In Washington, D.C., several thousand protesters marched Saturday from the White House to the Capitol to demand an end to the Iraq war, and at least 160 people were arrested when they jumped a barricade at the foot of the Capitol steps.
