VIGIL TO PROTEST THE EXECUTION OF WILLIAM CASTILLO

Nevada Death Row prisoner William Castillo is scheduled to be executed
at the prison in Carson City on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 8:30 pm. 
Mr. Castillo is proceeding with his intention to forego his available
appeals, making him the 12th Nevada inmate to "volunteer" to die. 
Twelve inmates have been executed since the resumption of executions in
the late 1970's.  Mr. Castillo will be the 13th.

You may have seen in the news that the Nevada Coalition Against the
Death Penalty is trying to halt Mr. Castillo's execution, and all
executions in Nevada, based on the fact that the United States Supreme
Court has agreed to review the constitutionality of lethal injection. 
We are still in the process of pursuing possible avenues for this
relief.  While we are hopeful (perhaps foolishly) that the Court will
enter a stay, we are nonetheless planning a protest outside of the
prison on Monday evening. 

The Coalition is holding a candle-light vigil in Carson City to protest
Mr. Castillo's execution and all government killings.  Please join us
to express your opposition to this barbaric act, and your support for
life, human rights and humanity.

Why:    To protest the scheduled execution of William Castillo

When:   Monday, October 15, 2007, starting at 7:00 pm

Where:  Opposite the entrance to the Nevada State Prison on East 5th
Street in Carson City

Directions:  Fifth Street in Carson City runs east-west just south of
the Legislative Building on Carson (Main) Street.  Go east on Fifth at
the traffic light (corner of Main and Fifth Streets), and continue east
until you see the prison on your right.  The vigil will take place just
across the street from the main entrance, in the wide graveled spot
opposite the prison gates.

It's usually windy, so prepare for it to be cold.
