### MEETING REVIEW -
September's Show 'n Shine went well. Bill Brinsmead showed up with his
G-Van; Keith Spradling of Keith's Kars was there with his electric Ford
Ranger; Chuck Swackhammer had his Zap Xebra on display; and Bob
Tregilus brought his electric Kawasaki motorcycle. ATC members viewed
and chatted about the vehicles on display.

### EVENTS CALENDAR
None, however, Bob will be doing a presentation for the Society of
Women Engineers on November 14 at the International Game Technology
(IGT) offices.

### WATT'S UP? -
by Bob Tregilus, ATC Chair
After this month's meeting at the RTC the ATC will be taking the
holiday season off. However, I do plan to try and hold one meeting to
see if we can get a little more organization to the club and begin to
tackle some legislative issues.
I think approaching the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board
of Regents regarding free parking and charging stations for EVs at UNR,
UNLV, and other state institutions would be a great way to test the
waters and see if university officials are willing to begin a statewide
discussion to address Nevada's transportation needs going forward.
So look for a business meeting in December to discuss this and other
ATC organizational issues.
I hope to see everyone at the RTC and if you can't make the meeting
have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

POORMAN'S EV
http://poormansev.com
"Poormans EV was created to help those on a budget who really want to
build an EV (Electric Vehicle). To "build" an EV really means to
Convert an original Gas Powered Vehicle to Electric Power that is
supplied with batteries and charged from your house or work. I will try
and document the conversion process as I get my Chevelle ready for the
track. I plan to race the Chevelle in the National Electric Drag Racing
Association. (www.nedra.com) I simply can not afford to lay down
$10,000 for the parts to do a conversion so I must find other more
economical ways to cut costs."
(Editor's note: Be sure to checkout his "salt water immersion
controller" here <http://poormansev.com/id24.html>, it's hilarious!)

100 fuel-cell vehicles in the hands of customers before the end of the
year."

South America and adding to the emissions blamed for global warming."

PUROLATOR UNVEILS NEW BATTERY ELECTRIC TRUCK
"Canadian package delivery company Purolator has been testing a variety
of alternative drivetrain vehicles, including hybrid electrics and fuel
cells. Their latest entry is a new, purpose-built battery electric
vehicle called the Quicksider. The truck was built by a consortium of
suppliers including Arvin Meritor, Unicell and several other companies.
The sixteen-foot fiberglass-bodied van uses a sodium nickel chloride
battery that provides a forty-mile range and a top speed of 65mph.
Unicell started development of the vehicle in 2000 and Purolator joined
the program in 2003. One of the partners in the program is Electrovaya
and they are working on a lithium ion battery pack for testing in the
Quicksider. Puralotor will be running the Quicksider in the Toronto
area."

CHRYSLER CREATES ELECTRIC VEHICLE DIVISION
"NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Chrysler has created a new division of the
company aimed at creating electric-drive vehicles and related
advanced-propulsion technologies.
The new organization, called Envi, will be headed by Lou Rhodes who had
been in charge of "Advance Vehicle Concepts and Innovation" at
Chrysler. In that role, he had led the early stages of engineering
development and strategy.
The group's will be dedicated solely to creating production vehicles,
not basic engineering research, said Nick Cappa, a Chrysler spokesman."

### EV VIDEO CLIPS -
ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE INVENTOR CRASHES AT WIRED NEXTFEST
"The inventor of the KillaCycle electric motorcycle almost killed
himself during a demonstration at the Wired NextFest conference. Bill
Dube, a government scientist during the day and electric bike builder
at night, did a burn out in front of the Los Angeles Convention
Center, but accidentally accelerated too much and crashed into a
Minivan."
Editor's note: The article and video don't explain that Bill Dube
survived the accident. On the Killacycle website Dube writes,
Im Fine (scrapes and cuts) Bike is a little bent . . .
First off, Im just a bit scraped up. Embarrassed of course. I had not
intended the bike to move in the soapy water, just spin the tire.
Got it slowed down to about 20 mph. Front wheel is bent, as are front
forks. Cowling is not nearly as pretty as it was. Battery box took a
hit from the front wheel. Almost certainly, some cells were shorted. No
smoke. No fire. Ultra safe cells. Had these been anything but A123
Systems Nano-phosphate cells, shorts would have caused a serious fire.
No major damage. We will have it fixed in short order.
Important to note: Area in front of the bike was CLEARED of ALL
PEOPLE. NO ONE was at risk but me. Concrete on both sides of area.
Yes, I am an idiot for not wearing a helmet. :-/
