last email....sorry if you're getting this as a repeat! (CPEHR people..we ae delivering these to Reid and Ensign as well as Heller, so you can send them too!!)
Update: If you can come with us and bring your letter, that would be awesome! But for those who can't be there, feel free to write a letter and email it to me at koffeenut at yahoo.com and also email it to Rita Sloan at rwrksloan at hotmail.com. (You can send it as an attachment or just an email..we'll be able to print it out either way). We will deliver everyone's letters. Below is a sample letter done by Military Families Speak Out.(You can cut out the sentences referring to the writer as a military family and it sounds great)... compose your own, whatever works...and short is good too if you don't have much time.
Some things to consider for a letter:
Supplemental budget in front of Congress has about $100 billion in it for the war, at least $75 billion of which is targeted for the war in and occupation of Iraq.. This is in addition to $70 billion alredy approved by Congress vor Fiscal Year 2007 Bush is still adament about a troop increase in Iraq, and fully intends to "stay the course". We need the new Congress to give a new direction. .
I know this is short notice, but we are doing this in conjunction with people in Washington DC doing the same thing this week....just a quick, sort letter should take a few minutes!
thanks so much!!! Lisa Stiller and Steve Gifford

Subject: [washoeantiwar] [Peace-presence] letters to Congress
This is a letter composed by a member of Military Families Speak Out and is going to be delivered to Congress today and Thursday. May give people some ideas of what to write...and, if you can't come with us to the Fed. Bldg but want us to deliver a letter for you, we can do that too! Just email and it will be picked up....lisa
Dear Senators and Members of Congress,
We are military families with loved ones currently serving in Iraq, families whose loved ones died as a result of the war in Iraq, families with loved ones who face deployment or redeployment to Iraq, and/or families whose loved ones returned with physical and/or psychological wounds from this war. We are members of Military Families Speak Out, the largest organization of military families speaking out against a war in the history of the United States. Our membership includes over 3,100 military families, with new families joining daily. We are calling on you today to do what the American people put you in office this November to do: end the U.S. military occupation of Iraq. There is one way for Congress to make this happen: vote against further appropriations that allow the war in Iraq to continue -- de-fund the war.
On New Years Eve, the 3,000th U.S. troop was killed in Iraq. Every day that the war continues, on average, three or more U.S. troops and countless Iraqi children, women and men die. One death in a war based on lies would have been too many, and the one thing worse than having so many die in a war that shouldnt have happened is to have even more die.
Following the release of the Iraq Study Group report, some in Congress stated that the ball is now in President Bushs court. As military families we say to you: The ball is now in your court.
You cannot simultaneously oppose and fund this war. We believe there are ample funds already appropriated to bring our troops home quickly and safely, with the armor, protective equipment, supplies, vehicles, ammunition, food and water they will need during redeployment.
We are therefore calling on you to vote against the upcoming appropriation for continuing the U.S. military occupation of Iraq. As military families we will stand with all who support our troops by voting to de-fund this unjust and unjustifiable military misadventure. We will make sure the American public understands that real support for our troops is de-funding the war, bringing them home now and taking care of them when they get here.
We also say to those in the 110th Congress who are considering voting for an appropriation that continues the war in Iraq: You fund it, and youve bought it. The war in Iraq will no longer be President Bushs war. It will be yours.
We look forward to meeting and speaking with you in the upcoming weeks to share our experiences and perspectives on this issue that is so critical to the future of our troops, their families, the Iraqi people and our nation.
In Peace and Solidarity,
