Reno’s first “Soular Wonder Block Party” is being held this Saturday,
December 22nd, in front of the Great Basin Community Cooperative, 271
Wonder Street, from 10-4pm.

The public is invited to an open house at the Co-op and Sound and Fury
Records, and to sample cookies and hot chocolate cooked with solar
ovens—on the second shortest day of the year! We’ll also offer tours
of a backyard hoop house to see one of Reno’s finest year-round
gardens!

There will be an open mic for musicians and spoken word artists, a
“green” art project sponsored by educators from
Responsibility.Earth.Art.Learning, (R.E.A.L.).

The Co-op is sponsoring a cakewalk, and Stage Left will present a
street theatre production. The Holland Project is hosting a bike
parade, and the Alternative Transportation Club will exhibit electric
vehicles!

This is a City of Reno Special Event, and the 200 block of Wonder
Street (west of Wells Avenue) will be closed to traffic for the day.
Participants are asked to take public transportation to the Soular
Wonder Block Party, as parking is at a premium, and there will be no
parking available for fossil-fueled vehicles!

“It’s a fun way to get away from the commercialism of the holidays and
take a few minutes with your family”, says organizer Laura Fillmore,
“it’s a way to do something ‘green’ on the Solstice, and to honor
several organizations that do great work in our community all year ‘round”.
