[Peace-presence] DON'T LET the initial outrage numb you and yesterday's horrors become today's normalcy!

This email outlines plans for emergency response demonstrations in the event that the U.S. attacks Iran and also for the day that Bush vetoes the supplemental appropriations bill.

We in the peace movement need to develop an emergency response network so that in the face of outrages such as these, we are ready to immediately deliver a resounding message of both condemnation and hope:

Condemnation of the criminals who push forward an agenda of prolonged and ever more catastrophic war AND hope for the millions who will be shocked and angered by these developments and looking for a means of expressing that shock and anger.

If we are not in the streets right away in instances like this there is the all-too-familiar danger that initial outrage will become numbed, and yesterday's horrors will become today's normalcy.

So please, do not merely read this email but forward it to as many individuals and organizations as you can think of. Make emergency demonstration plans in your city.

*The supplemental appropriations bill pushed through the House and Senate by leading Democrats is an outrage. It gives $100 billion in additional funding for the Iraq War - more than Bush had even asked for! The bill also calls for withdrawal of troops in 2008, but this date is nonbinding, and dependent on Bush himself determining that certain benchmarks for "progress" in Iraq have been met.

*Bush has made it repeatedly clear that the war in Iraq will continue as long as he is President. Therefore, the supplemental appropriations bill places a withdrawal date of 2008 in the hands of a president who has promised not to withdraw!

*Despite all this, because the bill dares to even suggest a timetable for withdrawal, Bush has promised to veto it. In vetoing the bill, the Bush regime would in essence be declaring that nobody can oppose or even regulate its agenda of global empire: that the war ends when

Bush says it does.

*On the day Bush vetoes the bill, expected to be either this coming week of April 16 or the following week, April 23, millions of Americans who are outraged by the continuation and escalation of the war will be closely following the news. Millions upon millions throughout the world are going to be looking to the streets of America to see how we respond. What message are we going to send them?

*Five months after the American people attempted to end the war in Iraq by voting in a Democratic majority, are we going to accept these terms? Are we going to throw up our hands and hope that Bush and Congress "strike a deal" to end the war?

Or are we going to come together powerfully to demand: End the War Now and Impeach the Bush Regime for War Crimes!

So, on the day Bush vetoes the supplemental appropriations bill, let's take to the streets at 5pm. Bring your signs, your voices, and most of all your outrage!

2) IF THE U.S. ATTACKS IRAN, GATHER IN YOUR TOWN SQUARES and/or RECRUITING CENTERS AT 5PM; SAME DAY IF THE ATTACK WERE TO OCCUR DURING THE DAY, NEXT DAY IF IT WERE GOING TO OCCUR AT NIGHT.

*The Bush Regime pretends it is bending over backwards to pursue diplomacy, even as it is engaged in preparations to launch a military strike.

*While itself committing one crime against humanity after another, the Bush regime issues grave warnings about a nation it says is supplying weapons to terrorists, without providing any proof of this claim - and the major media faithfully reports these accusations.

*The Bush Regime threatens to unleash brutal military force against a nation that has never threatened to attack the United States.

If all this sounds familiar, it should. The Bush Regime is repeating many of the same criminal lies in relation to Iran that it spewed in the build-up to attacking Iraq. But this time, it's even worse.

*The United States is the only country in the history of the world to use nuclear weapons. And now, the Bush regime has said it will not rule out using nuclear weapons against Iran; the supposed rationale being that Iran is trying to acquire nuclear weapons. Leading Democrats have stepped right in line, declaring "no option is off the table" in relation to Iran.

This rationale is hypocritical. It is unjust. And it is murderous on a massive scale. A U.S. attack on Iran, nuclear or otherwise, would be an unimaginably cruel nightmare for the people of Iran, and it could well provoke war throughout the Middle East and even a third world war.

*An attack on Iran should not be treated as some remote, distant possibility. Already, there are several signs that the U.S. is quietly moving towards attacking Iran.

*In the past three weeks alone: Two aircraft carrier groups and more than 100 U.S. airplanes simulated an attack on Iran on March 27. The U.S.S. Nimitz, loaded with more than 6000 sailors and marines, 4 missile-guided destroyers, and one middle-guided cruiser, left San Diego for the Persian Gulf April 2; the USS Chafee became the second missile destroyer based in Pearl Harbor to leave for the Persian Gulf April 9.

*Meanwhile, the administration has pushed full-steam ahead with its propaganda war against Iran, accusing the nation of supplying explosive devices to Shiite militia in Iran.

*And we know from a January Seymour Hirsch article that the Pentagon is drawing up plans that would allow the U.S. to bomb Iran within 24 hours of Bush's go-ahead.

*WE CANNOT AFFORD TO IGNORE THE SIGNS THAT THE U.S. IS GEARING UP FOR AN ATTACK ON IRAN, NOR THE HORRIFIC IMPLICATIONS OF THIS ATTACK.

We must fight with all our might to stop this attack, and if the U.S. does strike Iran, we must be ready to respond with immediate and powerful demonstrations.

THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN: WHICH ONE WE GET IS UP TO US.

The people of the United States and of the world are watching. The Bush Regime is absolutely determined to establish a permanent, unchallenged empire worldwide and a fascist society at home.

So we must be absolutely determined to stop them and to impeach this regime of monsters.
